MINI-REVIEW--Victory's Old Horizontal Barleywine

From Victory Brewing Company in Downingtown, Pennsylvania, comes their American style barley wine called Old Horizontal. An ABV of 11% assures that this is another great candidate for a cold night!

Pours a dark amber with a three-finger tan head and piney hops with a bit of a musty backdrop for the aroma. After the first sip, James had to declare "this is REALLY good" and I was quick to agree! A very floral hops is up front but changes to a perfectly balanced malty finish, which doesn't leave a bitter hops flavor, but lingering hoppy goodness in the mouth.

4 out of 5 stars for this beauty! A perfect example of what the American barleywine style is capable of. We're just sorry we only picked up one bottle!
